Narendra Modi issues warning to Congress in Arunachal

Modi’s speech lacks substance: APCC

Staff Reporter

ITANAGAR, Mar 31: The election battle in Arunachal is getting bitter as poll date nears.

BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi while addressing a massive rally today at IG Park ripped apart the Congress party. Modi urged Election Commission of India (ECI) to take note of how ruling Congress has bullied BJP candidates to withdraw nomination papers and stated that whatever is happening in Arunachal is not good and is against the spirit of democracy.

Virtually issuing warning to Congress in Arunachal Pradesh, he said, “Right now they may be indulging in intimidating and bullying tactics against BJP leaders in Arunachal. But after May 16 when Lok Sabha elections results are out they will have no savior at Delhi as BJP is going to form government at the Centre. “Then we will see who will save Arunachal’s Congress leader.” Further he also alleged that Congress has the culture of buying MLA’s in Arunachal.

Meanwhile Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Mukut Mithi when contacted stated that a person who is aiming to be Prime Minister of India should not have such kind of revengeful attitude. “It’s dangerous to hear such words from him. How can a PM nominee issue such warning? Mr Modi himself has been Chief Minister of Gujarat for quite a long time and should understand that state has its own power and Centre can’t dictate. I think he is not fit to be prime minister of India,” stated Mithi.

He further refuted allegation that Congress indulges in buying of MLAs. “Mr Modi should not think that our MLAs are so cheap. I can vouch that MLAs of Arunachal whether he/she may belong to any party are strong minded people who has their own ideology. Over all, I think Modi’s speech lacked substance. He had no agenda of how to develop Arunachal,” added APCC President.

Modi slams Sonia for her patriotism jibe

ITANAGAR, Mar 31: BJP Prime Ministerial nominee Narendra Modi today addressed a massive rally at IG Park, which saw huge turnout of BJP supporters. State BJP President Tai Tagak, MP candidates Kiren Rijiju and Tapir Gao along with host of party leaders were present on the occasion. The crowd went wild when Modi arrived at the ground. Wearing traditional Nyishi Bopia (headgear) which was presented to him, he did not take much time to connect with the crowd present. “Modi, Modi” chant swept IG Park.

Hitting back at Sonia Gandhi over her patriotism jibe, Narendra Modi said that people of the country did not need a certificate from her and attacked her over the Italian marines issue, questioning at whose behest they were given a chance to leave the country.

Gandhi had on Sunday attacked the BJP, saying, "Some people are beating the drum of patriotism" and added that these people who did not believe in secular values only wanted to "grab power" by misleading the people.

Taking potshots at the Congress President, Modi said she should not raise a question mark on people's love for their country.

Claiming that Gandhi had raised a question mark on the patriotism of the people, Modi asked her at whose direction the two Italian marines accused of shooting Indian fishermen off Kerala coast were allowed to leave the country.

"Who was it at whose behest the government in Delhi gave the marines a chance to go back to Italy," Modi asked. Had the Supreme Court not taken a strong stand on the matter, the marines would not have come back, he said. The Italian marines had been permitted by the Supreme Court to leave the country to participate in Italy's elections. However, when Italy refused to send the marines back, the Supreme Court restrained the Italian ambassador from leaving the country. Italy later relented and sent the marines back.

Hitting out at the Congress further, Modi said that its manifesto was a "dhokhapatra" (cheat sheet) and that the party had in the last elections promised to bring inflation down in 100 days, which had not happened. Modi also raised the issue of the death of Arunachal Pradesh youth Nido Tania in Delhi, saying that he was pained by such incidents but the Congress President had not mentioned the incident when she visited the Northeast yesterday.

Modi alleged that Congress never bothered to react even when Indian soldiers were killed by Pakistanis in Kashmir, nor when people from the North East were being subjected to discrimination in the national capital. "Will the 100 crore Indians need to learn patriotism from Sonia Gandhi?" he quipped and added that people of the country do not require any certificate from the Congress for their patriotic nature.

"The cultural ethos and traditions of the country are fast eroding and people are feeling alienated in their own country... Women are being raped in the (national) capital besides youth from Northeast are killed for racial reasons," he added.

Earlier, stepping up his attack on  ruling party, BJP candidate for Western Parliamentary seat Kiren Rijiju in his address said that there is no place for common man in the society under Congress rule.

Former MP assured that he would fulfill the unaccomplished task if he gets elected in Parliament adding that he will not let down Arunachal Pradesh. On the occasion Modi also launched website of Arunachal BJP, www.bjparunachalpradesh.org.  (PTI and ATNS).

Cong is people’s party: Tuki

ITANAGAR: Mar 31:  “Aayape….that’s a very good news in a long long time,” exclaimed a Gaon Bura in his seventies.

“Aah! I envy these Gaon Buras!” responded his friend, a non-Gaon Bura, also in his seventies.

The happiness and the feeling of importance were evident from the smiles of all the Gaon Buras cuddled in a Musup listening to Chief Minister Nabam Tuki at remote Dambuk in Lower Dibang Valley district this morning.

Tuki, who reached Dambuk to seek support for Congress nominee and the Party’s only other women in the fray - Gum Tayeng, assured his commitment to look after the welfare of Gaon Buras, one of the oldest institutions in the State. He was accompanied by Arunachal East Parliamentary constituency candidate Ninong Ering, who is also the Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs.

Reading out from the Party’s Election Manifesto, Tuki said, “Recently our Government had increased the honorarium to Gaon Buras and Head Gaon Buras. If we are elected back to power, we will raise these to Rs 1000 and Rs 1050 for Gaon Buras and Head Gaon Buras respectively.”

But what brought the loudest cheer from the Gaon Buras and the people was the assurance of the Chief Minister to provide Gaon Buras with free power of two units, a mobile handset and a colour television set each if the Party is voted back to power.

“Congress Party is people’s party. In Congress we believe in giving power to the people. Hence it is our duty to take care of Gaon Buras as well as empower the Panchayati Raj institutions,” Tuki pointed and highlighted the recent decisions of the government to devolve functions and financial power to PRIs.

The Chief Minister took a moment to take a dig at the BJP and its Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujrat.

“Modi’s last Arunachal visit proved lucky for us. We won in eleven Assembly constituencies unopposed! I have full confidence that his second visit, which is today at Itanagar, will prove luckier. We will sweep the Assembly and Parliamentary elections!” he said.

Tuki exuded confidence that no matter what, Congress will come back to power both in the state and the country. Asserting that BJP has no base in the North East, he questioned which state in the North East is ruled by the BJP? “Of the eight North Eastern states, five are ruled by the Congress while BJP has no presence anywhere. It is surprising that the main Opposition Party has its eyes on Arunachal, which never will be a reality,” he said.

Calling support for Ninong Ering, Tuki said Ering must be the only MP in several years who has travelled to all corners of his Parliamentary Constituency.

“It is really difficult for an MP to visit his constituency regularly as his job is mostly concentrated in the national capital. Despite the fact, Ering has stayed connected with the grass root people. This shows his sincerity towards the people. And now it is the people’s turn to reciprocate and send him back to Delhi to continue as a Union Minister,” he appealed.

Later in the afternoon, Tuki and Ering attended a road-show type rally at the heart of Tezu town in Lohit district organized by Tezu Assembly Constituency candidate of the Congress Karikho Kri.

Addressing a mammoth crowd that brought life to a standstill at Tezu Bazaar, from a makeshift podium atop a truck, Tuki congratulated the people of Tezu who despite being from varied social, religious, economical and ethnic backgrounds are living peacefully since ages.

“Tezu is a mini-India that thrives on secularism. I believe the people here believes in secularism and therefore for vote for a secular party,” he said seeking support for Kri.

Kri, in his address, reposed faith on the leadership of Tuki and assured that people of Tezu were with him and the Congress. He said Tuki has always cherished a special place for Tezu and it has been evident from financial grants and developmental projects given to Tezu in recent years.

“If we want the unfinished works to complete and bring in more new projects then we have to vote Congress to power,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ering touched the pulse of the young generation while demanding basic rights of administration for the people of Arunachal East Parliamentary constituency.

“There are several head of offices created for eastern part of Arunachal but all offices are in Itanagar. This has deprived the locals of this part of the state of their basic administrative and economical rights,” he pointed.

He, however, asserted that Tuki has taken cognizance of the issue and will take necessary action once a new Congress Government is formed after the elections.

Assuring his full cooperation to the people and the government, Ering promised that he will always remain a people’s man and bridge the gap between the people of the state and the Center to the best of his abilities if he is elected for the second term. (Media Cell, APCC)

ALCs: Poll time bridge between people and Govt

Itanagar, Mar 31: Trekking the rugged and almost inaccessible terrains of mountainous Arunachal Pradesh, the Agency Labour Corps make polling possible by carrying polling material to remote polling stations and transporting EVMs.

The ALC or porters were first appointed by the British for transporting material.

Even 67 years after Independence, the importance of the ALCs remains as there are no motorable roads in several districts where only porter tracks and mule paths exist.

Services of ALCs are required at the time of transporting public distribution system materials, opening new administrative centres, natural calamities and during polls

The election office here has hired 2100 ALCs to carry poll materials to remote places for the April 9 twin elections to the two Lok Sabha seats in the state and 49 assembly constituencies, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer D J Bhattacharjee said.

"We are dependent on them for transporting election materials to inaccessible polling stations and even during the time of declaring results," he said.

Declaration of results gets delayed in several seats as EVMs are transported by ALCs to the counting centres, which generally involve more than three days of arduous trekking.

In the initial stage, the existing porter tracks were being improved for easy movement of poll officials and porters from one place to another. In the 2009 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Arunachal Pradesh too, around 1400 ALC were deployed.

After Arunachal Pradesh became a full-fledged state in 1987, regular appointments of ALC have been stopped and they are now recruited only on a temporary basis. (PTI)

CCLAPF urges admin to maintain status quo

ITANAGAR, Mar 31: In the wake of show cause notice issued by the Capital Complex Chief Estate Officer cum ADM for eviction of the structure of one Tadar Yado Tang at E – Sector, Naharlagun, an emergency meeting of Capital Complex Land Affected Peoples’ Forum (CCLAPF) was held today under the chairmanship of Takam Dari Sojik, Chairman, CCLAPF.

After a threadbare discussion, the meeting recalled that in the meeting dated 13.02.2014 of the Govt. constituted high level committee to look into the land occupation and allotment imbroglio of the Capital Complex, held under the chairmanship of Padi Richo, Parliamentary Secretary (UD, Town Planning & Land Management), the committee unanimously adopted a resolution to immediately stop all fresh encroachments and also the eviction processes in Capital Complex till the Committee submits its final report to the government, according to a CCLAPF release.

Accordingly, the Forum had already instructed its members to maintain status quo in respect of fresh encroachments. Since then, the CCLAPF and the government constituted high level Committee has been earnestly engaged in its honest attempt to hammer out a pragmatic and permanent solution to this vexed issue. Vigorous exercises at the government level, including series of meetings, consultations, etc. were conducted to arrive at some logical conclusion/solution to this contentious issue. But for the sudden declaration of the state Assembly Election on 9.04.2014, much headway was anticipated in resolving this issue by now.

The meeting thus observed with much disdain that when the Forum was temporarily silent on the issue so as to pave way for smooth conduct of ensuing Parliamentary cum Assembly election processes of the state, the issuance of above show cause notice by the Capital Complex CEO-cum-ADM during the pendency of the case at the government level was uncalled-for, infelicitous, irregular and unwarranted.

The meeting urged the district administration to take due considerations of the resolution passed by the Govt. constituted high level Committee on 13.02.2014 regarding maintaining status quo in regards to fresh encroachments and evictions.

Capital has been celebrating earth hour for the last one year

Dear Editor,

Through the column of you esteemed daily, I would like to bring to the notice of people and concerned  department that millions of people around the globe participated in the celebration of the eighth edition of the Earth Hour to show their support for environmental issues ranging from deforestation to energy efficiency. Many events were held across India and other parts of world to mark the day. Lights were switched off in many homes, offices and famous landmarks at 8.30 pm on Saturday for an hour to mark annual Earth Hour.

While on the other side, people of ArunachalPardesh were celebrating earth hour for more than a year or so (unknowingly, unintentionally and un-wantingly) as regular power cuts takes place every other day in the state capital, a land blessed with "nature's bounty, roaring rivers, green hills and snow clayed mountain is deviating from the point of its actual utility for the welfare and development of the state and its citizen.

Science says "friction is necessary evil" and what I feel is that, this is 21st century era where "electricity too is necessary evil" to operate all those silicon contained goods and stuffs. Hope is the last and only thing that stays when everything ends and am hoping to see Arunachal shining high and practically attributing the tag “the power house of north east India. "

Yours,

Kamtey Ringu

Arunachal politics need feminine touch

Dear Editor,

I would like to draw the attention of avid readers of this esteemed daily to the meager number of women leaders taking part in the upcoming elections. There are zero female candidates for the Lok Sabha elections and only 8 for 60- member house. Promises had been made of 33% reservation for women candidates in the assembly elections but to no avail. If one observes, in many families prevailing in our society, men may act like its head but it is the women who are the ultimate bread winner. They are the ones toiling their sweat and blood in the paddy fields to feed many mouths. Given the god- gifted superior physical endowment of the male gender, the responsibility should have been reversed.

In recent times, it is conditioned that women of the family should work in the fields while men even feel embarrassed to assist them. The point is women are equally capable to be an exemplary leader. They can multi-task, balancing their profession and raising the family. They take exclusive forefront in campaigning for male politician then why not for themselves? Unless women take courage and dare to put their foot forward their counterparts are happy to dominate. Being a daughter of this beautiful state I would like to request all women to reach beyond their limits. We should aim to make gender injustice as a thing of distant past for the future generation.

The various political groups should include more women in decision-making process. It will not only highlight the integrity of their party but also female may bring fresh perspectives and inputs which might prove beneficial. Rahul Gandhi has been chirping about women empowerment throughout this election season, 33% reservation should be the first step towards it. In the clashes of masculine politics driven by greediness for power and money, maybe the side- tracked voice of the public do require the soothing of the feminine touch.

Yours

Dani Nagyang, Itanagar

Relation with neighbours should be improved

It is being widely reported that India will get tougher on territorial disputes with China and its old rivalry with Pakistan if BJP leader Narendra Modi becomes the prime minister in May after the general election. Modi, who is the front-runner to win the five-week election starting on April 7, has taken an aggressive tone against the two neighbouring nations. On the campaign trail, he had warned Beijing to shed its "mindset of expansionism" during his visit to Pasighat in February and in the past he has railed against Pakistan.

Reacting to the Modi’s statement at that time Chinese govt spokesperson had stated that China never wages war of aggression to occupy an inch of land of other countries and therefore it is wrong to give such statement. Though Modi is known for strong economic policies but he is yet to come clean in regards to foreign policy. No doubt country stands to gain if he gets tough against enemy but he should be cautious. India can’t afford to have   tense relation with the neighbours. For state like ours which shares international boundary with China, the tense standoff will be matter of deep concern. Infact people of Arunachal have been clamoring for opening of border trade with China. Whoever forms next government at centre should take step in this regard.
